By the end of the rally, I was truly committed to riding in the USA as much as time and money would permit. Riding in Europe requires an enormous amount of con- centration due to the traffic volumes and short distances between towns and cities. In the USA I loved the fact that I could “switch off” and just ride the bike with- out any distractions. Ball #3 Transfers Energy To Ball #4 I continued to visit the states and completed my first BBG on the way to the  IBA InterNational Meet using Rick Martin’s FJR. It was during this ride I decided that I should get my own bike in the states. Earlier this year, I found a low mileage  Yamaha FJR. It was identical to Rick’s bike, but with , fewer miles! I continued my non-riding activi- ties by co-hosting the  five-day IBA European Tour Rally in September. I always need to have something to look forward to and Iron Butt riding provides the perfect platform for reasons to plan.                           Ball #4 Transfers Energy To Ball #5 As ball # swings through the air in my imaginary Newton’s Cradle, it is not the end of the journey. I am full of ideas and have places I want to go and riding challenges I want to undertake. I am signed up for what will be my third IBR in , have another SaddleSore  group ride planned for Sicily, and have a date committed to ride to Prud- hoe Bay with German IBA President Gerhard Memmen-Krueger. If I wasn’t a long-distance rider, if I wasn’t an IBA member, and if I had not met so many great people, none of this would have happened or be happening. Someday I will have to slow down and eventually, at some stage of my life, stop riding altogether. But, hopefully, that will not happen for a very long time as I’m “only” . Newtown’s Cradle does not stop dead — it just slows down. I intend to make the most of the opportu- nities that I have whilst my balls are still swinging (so to speak). You never know when someone or something may bring them to a sudden halt or they simply run out of steam. But, at this point in my life, ball # is in the air and about to smack ball # again.
