Retrofitting the New Air Chucks Good news for current CyclePump owners is that the new air chucks can be retrofitted to the older pumps and air pressure gauges. They are priced at $ each and can be ordered from the BestRest website. As shown the photo above, the new chuck is provided with two different size clamps. The bag con- taining the hose clamps has instructions written on it to use the smallest clamp that will fit over the hose. Installation of the new air chuck requires some care. The instruction sheet that comes with the chuck says to use a sharp pair of scissors to cut off the old chuck and warns that dull scissors will cause the fabric covering the hose to fray. A critical warning provided is: “To pre- vent this fraying, wrap the hose with a piece of cellophane tape.” Based on my experience,it’s best to wrap the hose with cellophane tape whether you are using sharp scissors or not.The fabric covering the hose starts unravelling when you try to slide a hose clamp onto the hose after the old chuck has been cut off.The cello- BestRest Products  th St SW # Mountlake Terrace, WA  Tel: .. bestrestproducts.com New air chuck and hose clamps. One other issue I had with install- ing the new air chucks on one of my old pumps was tightening the hose clamp after it was slid into position. The instruction sheet says: “Use a pair of pliers or side cutters to crimp the nipple of the clamp so that it tightens onto the air hose.” I found that the pres- sure required to tighten the clamp was significantly higher than I could gener- ate with a pair of pliers. To adequately tighten the clamp, I used the vise on my workbench. The photo at the bottom of page  shows how much I compressed the nipple on the hose clamp to securely connect the hose to the air chuck. Summary The latest version of the CyclePump has been significantly improved with- out an increase in price. Although it’s still the most expensive pump of its size, it’s clearly superior to the competition. The new air chucks are highly recom- mended for retrofitting older versions of the pump and the accessory air pressure gauge. I was able to use the Omni-Cruise on a number of other bikes without modi- fying them, and it worked as advertised — better than any of the other clamp- style throttle locks I have used over the years. I even found it simpler to acti- vate and deactivate than some of the bar-end throttle locks I have tried. One big advantage was it took only seconds to move it from scooters to vintage BMWs. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, high quality throttle lock that solves many of the common problems of the plastic locks, can be moved from bike to bike in seconds, and will prob- ably outlast you, this is the one.
